Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter Moses Sumney has released a live concert film entitled A Performance In V Acts, which was filmed during a performance at the Ford Theater in Los Angeles on Oct. 31, 2021. The film was directed and executive produced by Sumney (who self-recorded his debut EP, 2014’s Mid-City Island), was produced and created by TUNTUM, while Alexander Alexandrov served as director of photography.
In a statement released on Instagram, the singer–who is known for his incredibly dynamic vocal range–divulged his feelings on the film’s release. “A Performance in V Acts marks the official end of the Græ album cycle,” Sumney explained. “It’s a capsule of our headline show since we will not be touring the album after all. This film also ushers in a new period of creativity for me—one in which I take a continued break from making albums and touring music to focus on other disciplines.”
n two parts, but 30-year-old was unafraid to push the boundaries during his performance; the one cover from the evening came in the form of Björk’s “Come to Me.”
A Performance in V Acts was broken down, as one may expect, into five acts, Act I: Logos, Act II: Ethos, Act III: Pathos, Act IV Pathos, and Act V: Encore. For much of the performance, Sumney and his ensemble are bathed in red light, but once they dip even deeper into the emotive nature of Sumney’s performance, they instead soak into the blue. All in all, it tracks in at 90-minutes during which not one moment is wasted.
As for other creative prospects, the musician is set to appear on the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which was created by the Weekend, Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim.
