On Friday, June 7, 2024, the United Nations and Oceanic Global hosted UN World Oceans Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event represented the annual celebration of the ocean, drawing over 500 individuals ranging from UN representatives, policy-makers, and scientists to students and change-seekers who tapped into the “Awaken New Depths” theme.

Among the offerings that corresponded with the Big Apple event was the “Evening for the Ocean” reception, which brought musicians and artists to the forefront, including Louis Cato, recording artist and the bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Also featured were Lomijoh, Giselle World, instrumental ensemble City of the Sun and an immersive sound experience by Aquostics Chair David Erasmus. Dormer UN World Oceans Day performers, EarthGang attended as well. See photos below.

Opening his stage time, Cato shared, “In the opening video (narrated by Michael B. Jordan), they said that to protect the ocean – the beating heart of our planet – we need to awaken new depths within our own hearts. I believe that music has a unique ability to elicit that type of awakening. It can transcend the ego and facilitate connection at the deepest levels of our humanity, allowing us to share real moments of enlightened elevation.”
