In an astounding moment of tension with no release, the sound was cut at a Journey concert on Friday night right before the drop of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” as the band was forced to cancel the remainder of the show due to an electrical fire.
Videos of the moment have been uploaded online, showing frontman Arnel Pineda singing the song’s iconic opening lines to an excited crowd at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo hosted at Houston’s NRG Stadium. Everything appeared to be going as planned until the first “It goes on and on and on and on,” when the crowd sang “on and on,” and the band… did not.
Instead, their sound went out and they appeared confused, with keyboardist Jonathan Cain shrugging to his bandmates and Pineda still singing into the mic as if it was on. The crowd kept singing though, up through the high note on “Hidin’ somewhere in the night,” at which point the lack of accompaniment caught up with them.

According to TMZ, stage hands rushed the stage at some point with fire extinguishers, and the crowd was eventually told that the remainder of the evening was canceled. In a statement, the rodeo said, “Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert. We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment.”
The rodeo also added they would “provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”
These days, the Pineda-fronted Journey is a fairly experienced touring act, but this isn’t the first public hiccup they’ve had in recent memory. Last year, Pineda offered for fans to vote him “out for good” after he had vocal issues at a performance in Rio, which Neal Schon then blamed on Avenged Sevenfold. Schon and Cain have also been feuding, though the two reached a legal resolution to some of their disputes last August.
Meanwhile, Journey will play their final show that’s currently on the books on Sunday, March 16th in Highland, California. Get tickets here.
