Halle Berry’s seemingly no-panties, skin-baring Met Gala ensemble left little to the imagination, and social media users are divided over the star’s fashion choice.
The actor made her return to the Met Gala red carpet Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, donning a sheer black striped LaQuan Smith dress for the evening’s theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The Oscar winner also joined in on the growing trend of celebrities sporting little to nothing on the red carpet — the area of Berry’s crotch was clearly visible through her semi-sheer dress.

While some social media users praised Berry for the out-of-the-box outfit, others argued that she “didn’t need to show her groin” to pull off the look.
“The idea is interesting, but not the execution,” one person wrote on Reddit. “The jacket distracts and the dress didn’t need to show her groin. It’s just too obviously trying to be outrageous. Halle is classier than this. In these pics, she doesn’t even look happy wearing it.”
An X, formerly Twitter, user said, “You can literally see her snatch. Guuurl no,” while another added, “Yikes. She’s so beautiful… but that outfit is not good.”
Speaking to E! News following the event, Berry revealed that she had two gown options for the evening but chose designer Smith’s favorite.
“He showed me some sketches. I chose two that I really liked, so he made two dresses,” she explained. “The dresses were gorgeous.”
Berry added: “I could hardly choose. I asked LaQuan, ‘Which one would you like me to wear?’ So, I chose his favorite.”
Meanwhile, the “Catwoman” actor isn’t the only star who caught flak for showing skin at this year’s event.
Pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s pants-less look, which she paired with a long train, white dress shirt and towering heels, was also met with mixed reviews on social media.
The singer told Vogue on the red carpet that Met Gala co-chair Pharrell Williams convinced her to try out the unconventional attire.
“I’m such a massive fan of Pharrell’s and have been to the [Met Gala] and I was just like, ‘If I could go this year with him, that would be my dream’ and it came true. And he was like ‘You’re quite short, so no pants for you,’ so here we are,” Carpenter quipped.
