GREEN Day has canceled its upcoming show in Pennsylvania hours before the concert was scheduled to begin.

On Saturday, the band announced that its tour stop in Hersey, Pennsylvania, just east of the state capital, will be rescheduled to a later date in September after lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong lost his voice.

They said Billie fell sick “right after stepping off the stage” at the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Friday, August 9.

“Philly, you were unreal last night! Thanks for powering through the rain with us!” a message posted on Green Day’s Instagram Stories read.

“Sadly, right after stepping off stage, Billie lost his voice and won’t be able to perform at this evening’s show in Hershey.

“We’re so sorry to be missing you tonight, but here’s the good news – the rescheduled date is September 2 so hold on to your tickets – we will see you then!”

The update comes hours before Green Day was set to take the stage, with several fans complaining about the last-minute cancellation on X.

“Green day just f***ing canceled,” one comment read.

Another person wrote, “NOT ME FINDING OUT GREEN DAY IS CANCELED WHILE DRIVING TO PA FROM CT (and having driven to CT last night from MA).”

A third comment read, “0/2 with concerts this week. I cannot believe Green Day just got canceled.”

The band released its 14th studio album Saviors on January 19, 2024, shortly after announcing The Saviors Tour last November.

The tour, which kicked off in May with two shows in Spain, also celebrates the 30th and 20th anniversaries of their albums Dookie and American Idiot respectively.

In an interview with The Sun, frontman Billie said Green Day is “the gift that keeps on giving”, adding that 2024 is going to be a “big year” for the band.

“We’ve got new album, a 30-year anniversary for Dookie and a 20-year anniversary for American Idiot, and we are going out on the road to play songs from them all.

“Green Day is a gift that keeps on giving,” he continued.

Elsewhere in the interview, bassist Mike Dirnt reflected on how social media apps like TikTok and Instagram have changed the way young people discover music.

“Social media is great for kids but if you’re finding your music via algorithms then that’s just f***ing lazy.

“I like to organically find new things. All I can say is just f***ing clear your search history to find new s***.”

The Saviors Tour began one year after Billie surprised fans at a London pub with an impromptu performance of one of the band’s most iconic songs.

The American rockstar joined UK group Borderline Toxic for a rousing rendition of Green Day’s Basket Case during a show in north London last May.

Borderline Toxic’s lead singer Kerry Glass told BBC Newsbeat: “Eleven-year-old me panicked.

“I think I did three circles just running around the stage until he [Billie] was like, ‘Come on, sing with me’.

“It took a minute to settle,” Kerry continued, adding, “And then I was like, ‘You know, I’m going to enjoy every single second of this’.”
