Country music legend George Strait set a new record for the largest single ticketed concert in US history with his show at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas on Saturday night.
A crowd of 110,905 fans turned out to attend Strait’s concert, breaking a record previously held by The Grateful Dead, who had 107,019 Deadheads in attendance for their 1977 performance at Raceway Park in New Jersey.

As for Strait’s set, he played hits like “Amarillo By Morning,” “Check Yes or No,” “Here for a Good Time,” and more, as well as new songs “MIA in MIA” and a cover of Waylon Jennings’ “Waymore’s Blues,” both from his upcoming album Cowboys And Dreamers (due on September 6th).
Another highlight came when Strait delivered a classic A&M “whoop,” to uproarious applause, telling the crowd “I had to do it — my son said it’s okay if I did that, he graduated from A&M.”
In addition to being the largest single ticketed concert in US history, the evening also set an attendance record for Kyle Field (previously recorded on October 2014 when Texas A&M’s football team played Ole Miss). According to local media, hotels in the surrounding area were so booked up with Strait fans that some locations sold-out of rooms within 30 minutes of the show’s announcement.
Strait and his Ace in the Hole Band will play stadium shows in Salt Lake City, Detroit, and Chicago in the coming weeks. They’re also due to play Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium in December. Purchase tickets for his upcoming shows here.
