Bruno Mars has revealed that Silk Sonic has ‘bowed out’ of submitting albums for 2023 Grammys consideration.

The duo comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak swept the 2022 Grammys. Silk Sonic’s debut single, “Leave the Door Open,” helped the duo win all four awards for which they were nominated:

  • Best R&B Song
  • Best R&B Performance
  • Song of the Year
  • Record of the Year

Now Mars says the dup won’t submit their latest album, An Evening Wilk Silk Sonic because they’d be “crazy to ask for anything more.”

“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly, and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars told Rolling Stone. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”

“And and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave the Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake,” Mars continues. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform – not once but twice – and awarding us at last year’s ceremony. We’d be crazy to ask for anything more. Thank you to everyone that supported this project and championed it,” Mars concludes.

Following the announcement, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. thanked Silk Sonic for their music. “We appreciate their decision not to submit this year but look forward to celebrating an amazing year in music together,” Mason’s statement reads.

Silk Sonic isn’t the first group to withdraw from the Grammys, but it’s definitely one of the more positive spins. The Weeknd is boycotting the awards after his snub for After Hours in 2021. Drake also withdrew from consideration last year after two nominations were already announced. It’s unclear if the rapper will submit his latest album, Honestly, Nevermind.
