An LA state of mind.
Billy Joel made it a family affair at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
The 74-year-old stepped out on the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena with his wife, Alexis Roderick, and their two young daughters — Della Rose, 8, and Remy Anne, 6.
The New York native rocked a crisp black suit and dark shades for the evening.
Roderick, whom he married in 2015, sported a silver-sequined gown with a black bottom while Della and Remy matched each other in black dresses.
While on the carpet, he was asked by reporters who he was most excited to see at the ceremony.
Joel gushed that he was happy that he would seeing Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish perform during music’s biggest night.
The “Piano Man” singer also told carpet correspondents Amanda Kloots and Alina Vission that while he loves his songs, he despises the songwriting process.
“I’m going to go into my cave and become a caveman,” he noted. “It’s not a fun process for me — it’s very self-centered, very lonely. And sometimes it’s torture.
“But afterwards, I love having written,” he continued, adding that performing “can get a little tiresome too.”
His advice for young musicians? “You’ve got to go through things to write about things. Write what you know,” Joel explained.
Joel is also singing at the ceremony, and will perform his newest single in 17 years, titled “Turn the Lights Back On.”
On Friday, he opened up about his return to music, telling the “Audacy Check-In” podcast: “I have this high bar that I set for myself. If I don’t reach that bar, I beat myself up and I punch myself and I hate myself. So I stopped doing [music] because I got tired of feeling like that.”
The “Uptown Girl” crooner is also the dad of singer Alexa Ray Joel, 38, with his ex-wife Christie Brinkley. Joel and Brinkley, a model, were married from 1985 to 1994.
