Just days before Rolling Loud Miami is set to kick off, Ye is dropping out. Here’s what we know.
Co-Founders Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler released a statement about the last-minute line-up change. “We were looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022. We spent months working with him and his team on the performance. Unfortunately, Ye has decided that he will no longer be performing,” the statement reads.
“This is the first time a headliner has ever pulled off our show and though we don’t take it lightly, we wish [Ye] the best. We look forward to welcoming Kid Cudi as a headliner in Miami and we can’t wait to see what he has in store.”
Fans reacted to the news of Ye dropping out of Rolling Loud Miami on social media with mostly negative comments. Some fans asked for Travis Scott instead of Kid Cudi as a replacement. There’s been no official reason given for the drop-out and it seems out of the blue.
Ye performed at Rolling Loud California in 2021 as a special guest and his first festival appearance since the pandemic. According to organizers, Kanye received no compensation for this performance. Rolling Loud promoted Ye’s Donda 2 Experience at Miami’s LoanDepot Park on February 22, 2022. In the comments section announcing the drop-out, Tariq writes, “Tried to convince Ye to stay on the lineup but he wasn’t having it,” with a shrugging emoji.
So far, Kanye’s social media has been quiet about his decision to pull out of the festival. Kid Cudi will headline day one of the festival on Friday, July 22 to replace Ye. Future will headline the stage on July 23, with Kendrick Lamar taking the stage on July 24.
Ye was announced as a headliner for Coachella 2022 earlier this year, but pulled out weeks ahead of the event. A Los Angeles-based production company has sued the rapper, alleging non-payment for the work they did on his canceled Coachella performance.
