Texas-bred, NYC-based band Why Bonnie has unveiled their latest single, ‘Headlight Sun – Bedroom Version,’ a stripped-down reimagining of a standout track from last year’s Wish on the Bone. The new single previews The Bedroom, a four-song EP due out July 25th via Fire Talk, recorded entirely by frontperson Blair Howerton in her Brooklyn apartment.
A softer, more delicate take on the original, ‘Headlight Sun – Bedroom Version’ leans into the track’s hushed vulnerability. Where Wish on the Bone reveled in anthemic indie-rock textures, this rendition dials things back to reveal the emotional core beneath. Howerton’s voice is accompanied only by sparse electric guitar as she delivers the tender refrain: “Another restless sleep can wait another night, but for now, I’m yours, and baby – won’t you be mine?”
The Bedroom EP captures Howerton at her most personal and self-sufficient, presenting acoustic reworks of two previously released tracks—’Fake Out’ and ‘Headlight Sun’—alongside a newly unveiled demo. While Why Bonnie’s sound typically blends shoegaze, country, and indie rock, this solo effort strips it all away to spotlight Howerton’s lyrical depth and vocal warmth.
‘Headlight Sun – Bedroom Version’ is available now on your favorite DSP.
