Billie Eilish and her brother FINNEAS were the latest A-listers to appear on Celebrity Substitute, a series where celebrities drop by elementary schools to play substitute teacher for the day.
Arriving at Garvanza Elementary in Los Angeles, the pair of Grammy-winning songwriters were tasked with teaching a first grade class how to write a hit song. The kids, predictably, were off the walls when Billie and FINNEAS show up, with one student even asking “Am I dreaming right now?” and another noting that they saw Eilish performing on TV with red hair. FINNEAS started playing some piano chords, and the students weighed in on which chords they liked best.
They eventually cycled through some potential song topics, which included ghosts, Kendrick Lamar, or something “freaky,” per one student’s suggestion. The group landed on the topic of snow, and decided to write a song about a polar bear who “gets cheated on,” or perhaps is just heartbroken and alone — but then, the polar finds a snowman who will be his friend.
Now with a new “hit” song written, appropriately titled “I’m Just a Polar Bear,” the class performed the track in front of their teacher, Ms. Fowler, as well as Celebrity Substitute’s host, Julian Shapiro-Barnum. Watch Billie Eilish and FINNEAS’ full appearance on Celebrity Substitute below.
The Celebrity Substitute spot comes right as Eilish completes her 2024 arena run, “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour.” Her last show of the tour is Saturday, December 21st at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Eilish also appeared alongside FINNEAS for her first-ever in-person Tiny Desk Concert this month. Next year, Eilish will embark on an international tour, while FINNEAS will head out on a 2025 tour of his own next spring. Get tickets to see FINNEAS here.
