UPROXX and will.i.am will host the ‘LA Check-In’ ahead of the Grammys to support the LA music community and fire relief efforts.

In partnership with will.i.am’s FYI and the i.am Angel Foundation, UPROXX and will.i.am will host the “LA Check-In” on Friday, January 31, from 8 PM to midnight PST. The special pre-Grammy event is dedicated to supporting the LA music community and fire relief efforts.

Hosted at will.i.am’s FYI Campus in Hollywood, the event will feature a night of music and giving back, with a performance by Coast Contra and special appearances by DJ Drama, DJ Hed, Samantha Ronson, and more — including, of course, will.i.am. Attendees will enjoy a premium open bar and live sets from an impressive lineup of DJs and many surprise guests.

All proceeds will be directed to the i.am Angel Foundations emergency fund, which provides immediate financial assistance to affected families, students, and communities. Donations will be distributed to the LAUSD Foundation, Pasadena Educational Foundation, and Core Foundations to maximize community impact.

Meanwhile, UPROXX has unveiled its 7th Annual Music Critics Poll, a comprehensive and industry-wide ranking of the year’s top music moments. Nearly 300 music critics were invited by Philip Cosores, UPROXX’s Senior Director of Editorial and Content Strategy, to contribute their expertise.

“Kicking off the week of the Grammys, the UPROXX Music Critics Poll offers a unique lens into the year’s biggest hits and hidden gems,” said Cosores. “Our inclusive approach ensures that every vote counts, including the biggest names in the industry and its rising stars, for results that are completely transparent. This is a nuanced and comprehensive snapshot of music in 2024 from some of the industry’s most critical voices.”

UPROXX’s poll’s unmatched scale and inclusivity serves as an honest reflection of the year’s musical landscape, going beyond traditional, peer-voted awards to represent the broadest consensus of critical voices in music media. Now in its seventh year, the UPROXX Music Critics Poll asks numerous credible journalists, reporters, critics, and more to weigh in on over 900 albums and 700 songs.

This year, UPROXX introduces two new categories, Top 20 Music Videos and Top 20 Album Covers, in addition to the Top 50 Albums and Top 20 Songs that defined the year. The additions follow the success of UPROXX’s inaugural Sound+Vision Awards and ceremony, which launched last year as a first-of-its-kind celebration of creative direction in music.
