U2 announced their newest live show at the MSG Sphere during the Super Bowl this fall.
‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere’ is the band’s first live outing in four years. It follows their Joshua Tree 30th anniversary stadium tour and their 2018 eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE tour. U2 will launch the MSG Sphere.
“The announcement comes with confirmation that Larry Mullen Jr. will take time out to undergo and recuperate from surgery in 2023,” the press release confirms. “These Las Vegas shows will see Larry and the band welcome drummer Bram van den Berg who will be sitting in to join Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton onstage at MSG Sphere.”
“It’s going to take all we’ve got to approach the Sphere without our bandmate in the drum seat, but Larry has joined us in welcoming Bram van den Berg who is a force in his own right,” adds the rest of the band. “U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again.”
MSG Sphere features the first 16K screen that wraps up, around, and behind the audience. The new venue’s Sphere Immersive Sound delivers pitch perfect audio to every seat in the house, while 4D technologies allow the audience to feel wind on their face, heat on their skin, and the rumble of thunder throughout the building.
Registration for tickets to the event is currently open. Fans will need a Ticketmaster account in order to sign in because of the Verified Fan system. Ticketmaster says its Verified Fan system helps block bots and resellers—but that hasn’t stopped them for the Taylor Swift and Beyonce tour dates.
“The Sphere is more than just a venue, it’s a gallery and U2’s music is going to be all over the walls,” adds the band.
