Iconic rapper Tupac Shakur will be immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame more than 26 years after his death.
The famous hip-hop artist will be posthumously honored next Wednesday, becoming the 2,758th star to land on the historic landmark in Los Angeles that’s been visited by millions of people since it opened in 1960.
“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come.”
“Surely, as one of L.A.’s own, Tupac’s star will be added to the list of most visited stars,” she said of the late Los Angeles native.
He will receive his star in the category of recording.
Tupac’s music stood out during his short, but illustrious career and has provided inspiration years after his death. He released just four albums before he was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas at the age of 25.
The 1996 case has never been solved.
Tupac has sold more than 75 million records, with many coming from seven posthumous releases.
The Harlem-born artist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur will accept the star on behalf of the family, according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which runs the Walk of Fame.
The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. local time.
