Trippie Redd reveals that hackers held his music for a $1 million ransom.
In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, rapper Trippie Redd revealed that his newest album, Mansion Musik, has a noticeably unfinished sound because he rushed to release it ahead of the hackers who allegedly targeted him.
Lowe referred explicitly to the mix of “Krzy Train,” a track Trippie worked on with Travis Scott that has received mixed reactions. The Ohio-born rapper says the sound wasn’t intentional, but he needed more time to mix the record properly.
“I was held for ransom on my project. They wanted me to pay them a million dollars because they had all my records. Every single last one. All the features. Some hackers, they had all my songs, so I had to rush the project out,” Trippie explains.
The rapper says that the version of “Krzy Train” he released is more or less what Scott sent him because his engineer never got to mix it. Trippie says he felt pressure to release the album as soon as possible for fear the hackers would beat him to it.
“I had to run with it because if I didn’t, the whole project was going to release, and it would’ve been a big thing,” he says. “And this has been a big thing. They have been hacking and leaking shit like crazy, at least my last two, three albums. I don’t know how they do it.”
“I was like, ‘If I don’t drop it now, then it’s going to be out there, and they’re going to hear it regardless,” Trippie continues. “They’re going to hear the bad mix regardless, so I’m going to put it out unmixed and see what they think.’”
He then assured listeners that the album would be fixed and that each track would be reworked.
“The album did leak, actually, too,” Trippie admits. “Like the devil going to throw so much at you, you can’t really let it bother you. Just take the bruises; you’ll heal eventually.”
