Black Hippy is way overdue for a standalone project. The supergroup made up of TDE pioneers Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Kendrick Lamar last came together on a track in 2016, for Q’s “That Part” remix.
A fan tweeted at Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith on Monday to find out whether we’ll ever get another Black Hippy remix, and the CEO took it one step further.
“I think they we [sic] will…..they owe y’all an album or EP,” Top Dawg replied.
When another user responded “don’t give us hope man,” Top simply explained he hopes “for shit everyday.”
In addition to addressing the topic of new music from the group, Top answered a fan wondering “how many TDE projects will we see drop this year?”
“Reason, [Ray Vaughn], Doechii, [Schoolboy] Q, Jay Rock, [Zacari] and a compilation..if everybody do their part,” he tweeted. “When they turn them in I will release em.”
He specifically said Q are Rock are both “getting close,” SiR is “making a few tweaks” and “won’t be long,” Zacari is “shooting videos now,” and Ab-Soul will drop a deluxe edition of Herbert—and maybe even a new album in December. Soul will also do a live run, and SZA will take her massively successful SOS Tour to Europe.
