The Weeknd is putting his album release on hold and cancelling his concert at the Rose Bowl amid the ongoing LA wildfires ravaging the area.

Many creators in the Los Angeles area are putting projects on hold amid the wildfires still devastating the area since last week. The Weeknd is no exception. The superstar shared on social media that he is cancelling his January 25 concert at the Rose Bowl “out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles county.”

He also announced the release of his upcoming sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, has been postponed until January 31 — a week later than initially planned.

“I am cancelling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25,” wrote The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time.”

“In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31,” he added. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

Tesfaye has been excited to release his new album, as its title may imply. And that’s due in part to the album representing the final project for the star under his The Weeknd persona — coupled with the film of the same name, which drops in May. But the “Blinding Lights” singer isn’t looking to step away from music completely, so fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

As firefighters battle the flames that have claimed over 20 lives and devastated the community, a bunch of entertainment events have been postponed or cancelled this week. This includes the extra events related to the Grammy Awards, such as the afterparty, though the ceremony will continue on February 2 as scheduled.
