After U2 became the first band to hold a residency at Las Vegas’ billion dollar venue The Sphere, a new concert film commemorating their “U2:UV Achtung Baby” show is coming to the venue.
Beginning on September 5th, 2024, The Sphere will be the home of V-U2, an immersive concert film that will give attendees a full showcase of the band’s visually-stunning performance. The film was directed by Morleigh Steinberg as well as U2 guitarist The Edge, who makes an appearance in V-U2’s trailer to say “Finally, I get to see a U2 show.”

Utilizing The Sphere’s innovative technology and visual prowess, V-U2 is the first film to be shot entirely with Big Sky, the venue’s ultra-high-resolution camera system. The film recreates the use of multiple cameras, the venue’s 160,000 sq. ft. display plane, the surround sound courtesy of HOLOPLOT, and haptic seats that use vibrations to create an immersive effect on par with U2’s original residency.
Tickets for V-U2 at The Sphere start at $100 (all-in) and go on sale on Friday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster. If you’re planning a trip to Las Vegas for a show at the Sphere, you can save 10% off travel and accommodations through Booking.com.
In a statement, The Edge echoed his remarks from the trailer, saying “The goal was to give the immersive movie goers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible — and then some. I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one.”
Fellow director Steinberg also said in a statement that “We knew all the tremendous capabilities of the technology, but we didn’t know what to expect from the process of making this film. The work became a true collaboration between band, artists, producers, and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that transports viewers into the energy and beauty of the live show.” Check out the trailer for V-U2 below.
U2 opened their residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas in September of 2023, played over 40 sold-out shows at the venue, and concluded their run in March of 2024. They were followed by a brief residency from Phish and a slew of shows from Dead & Company. Next to play The Sphere are The Eagles, who are currently on their farewell tour. Their shows start on September 20th; get tickets to see The Eagles at The Sphere here.
Meanwhile, beyond live performances, The Sphere is continuing their slate of film-centric offerings. Apparently, they’ve got a new Sphere-ified adaptation of The Wizard of Oz in the works, which is costing them a light fee of $80 million.
