1tbsp is an indie-house/dance project from Grammy Award Nominee songwriter/producer Maxwell Byrne (Golden Vessel). Hailing from Brisbane, the multi-talented artist, when making music as Golden Vessel, is known for his genre-bending style that seamlessly blends electronic, indie-pop, and R&B influences. When working under his 1tbsp moniker, Byrne explores elements of house music while researching songs for his DJ performances at “Sumoclic Nights,” a monthly event he was hosting at a Brisbane venue. On March 16th he released his third EP It’s Very Loud. The songs that follow are the records that shaped this latest project.

“My new ep It’s Very Loud is all about self-expression and making music that excites me enough that I want to share it and use it in my DJ sets. It’s a pretty simple concept but sometimes other things get in the way, and I wanted to make this louder than previous things I’ve made.”

Mietze Conte – ‘Nervous’

Last year my friend Mietze Conte showed me this song they’d made called ‘Nervous’ and I loved it so much. It just felt so fun and so quick and made me want to explore & experiment more with 1tbsp. I ended up signing their project to my label sumoclic and wrote ‘No Nein’ with them shortly after.

Two Shell – ‘Home’

It was fun following the hype around this song, and it felt so interesting as to what dance music can be. It’s completely experimental but feels also quite pop.

Tokischa & Rosalia – ‘Linda’

I think it was this song that really introduced me to dembow and start to explore other latin music & reggaeton. I love the energy & personality within dembow and it’s been a huge influence on my music (especially some of the recent stuff i’ve been making).

Ross From Friends – ‘Pale Blue Dot’

I’ve always liked house/dance music but I remember this song really grabbed me back in 2018 and was a big catalyst for me wanting to start this project and make my own dance music aside from Golden Vessel. The textures & layers on this track are so good.

Villager – ‘Ow Wow’

Thought i’d just include a track that i’ve been really liking lately. Every time i’ve played this in a set it’s landed perfectly and the sound design is crazy. Feels like the song keeps tearing apart and rebuilding.
