The Jesus Lizard have released the new song and music video “Alexis Feels Sick,” the second single from their forthcoming comeback album, Rack, out September 13th.
The first quarter of the four-and-a-half-minute track is devoted to the lanky bass playing of David Wm. Sims, whose intro gives way to pocketed breakdowns and the commanding and deceptively catchy yelps of vocalist David Yow. The arrangement remains unpredictable throughout, shifting between textural guitar passages and tectonic post-hardcore riffage.

The startling video is the work of Yow himself and dabbles in the nightmarish side of AI art. Deformed faces and figures melt and discombobulate, and the latter portion of the video is comprised of terrifying AI dog renders.
“The ‘Alexis Feels Sick’ video is a disgusting and comically impressionistic portrait of American Late Stage Capitalism… with some doggies,” said Yow, with guitarist Duane Denison adding that it’s a “study in greed, gluttony, and… dogs.”
That makes two strong singles from Rack following the excellent “Hide & Seek” — a Heavy Song of the Week selection last month. Rack marks the Jesus Lizard’s first new album in 26 years, following 1998’s Blue.
The reunited noise rockers will be supporting the album with a run of fall concert dates that kicks off on September 7th with an appearance at the Hopscotch Music Festival. The band will be on the road through December and also has shows booked as far out as next May (get tickets here).
