It’s been 25 years since The Get Up Kids released their seminal sophomore album, Something to Write Home About. To commemorate the anniversary, the Kansas City emo legends have announced that they will reissue the album as an expanded deluxe edition.
Featuring newly remastered versions of the original songs and a second LP consisting of previously-unreleased demos (including the original four-track acoustic recordings by frontman Matt Pryor), the 25th anniversary deluxe edition of the album is set to arrive digitally on August 23rd and physically on September 20th via Polyvinyl Record Co.

Today, along with the announcement, the band released the first-ever music video for the album’s beloved opening track, “Holiday,” featuring unearthed footage from the band’s tour in support of the release. “The biggest takeaway from watching this video is how young we were,” Pryor said in a statement. “It’s like watching your parents’ home movies of you riding a big wheel in the backyard. Just babies… The kids onstage in these videos really have no idea how much this album will change their lives, that we’ll still be talking about it 25 years later.”
For his part, guitarist and singer Jim Suptic said, “When we set out to write what would become the album Something to Write Home About, I never imagined all the places it would take us… When I listen back to these demos it takes me right back to our practice space in Kansas City. We were so young, but we were driven to make something great.”

Along with the music, physical editions of the reissue of Something to Write Home About will come with a 28-page booklet, featuring “handwritten lyrics, photos, and other ephemera from the era.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
