The Canadian leg of the tour starts tonight in Quebec.

Celebrated Canadian avant-rock trio SUUNS has announced their upcoming album The Breaks, set to be released on September 6th through Joyful Noise Recordings. The band, consisting of Ben Shemie, Joseph Yarmush, and Liam O’Neill, is diving headfirst into their pop instincts while expanding their sonic palette with loops, synths, samples, and MIDI instruments. The result is an album that stretches far beyond their core fundamentals, likened to a post-millennial Tangerine Dream exploring downtempo trip-hop beats.

The lead single ‘The Breaks’ is a bold step into dream pop territory, blending electronic abstraction with the band’s foundational instincts. The accompanying music video, directed by Alexander Ortiz, complements the song’s slow, moody feel with visuals that evoke movement without a clear destination.

Ortiz explains:

“The idea for the video is basically to match the slow moody feel of the song. It conjures movement with no destination in mind and analogue blends of images that you can almost touch. From bike rides and night drives to the passion of cha-cha dancing with a bouquet of flowers.”

Multi-instrumentalist Yarmush adds:

The Breaks became sort of the opposite of our last record. Nothing was really played together. We were caught in a little bit of a wormhole, trying new things, throwing different things against the wall.”

The new single ‘The Breaks’ is out now. The album The Breaks is set for release on September 6 via Joyful Noise Recordings.
