Daniel Caesar is expected to make big moves in 2023.
The Grammy-winning singer returned Friday with “Do You Like Me?” It marks his first solo single since last year’s “Please Do Not Lean” with Badbadnotgood. Caesar announced the release on social media this week, sharing a clip from the song’s official video.
“Are you ready?” he captioned the post, which showed a woman setting fire to his photograph.
“[It’s] a song about a woman I respect deeply,” Caesar said about the record, adding that it’s “90 degrees of a love triangle.”
“Do You Like Me?” arrives as fans wait for the follow-up to the singer’s 2019 album Case Study 01. He spoke about the project during a 2022 interview with Billboard, saying it will focus less on R&B and incorporate elements from the folk and country genres.
“Each album, I’ve become more myself, and I’m zeroing in on what I want to say,” he said. “You’ll hear more introspection, honesty and I’m playing most of the music myself. I’ve never been in the driver’s seat more than I am now…I want to say more and take more risks. I can’t wait for my fans to hear it.”
Caesar produced “Do You Like Me?” alongside Raphael Saadiq and Dylan Wiggins, who also executive produced the singer’s forthcoming LP. You can stream the song now on all major platforms and see the lyric video up top.
