Stevie Van Zandt partners with leading independent publisher Primary Wave Music for a stake in producer royalties from his collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and much more.
Primary Wave Music has partnered with singer, songwriter, and producer Stevie Van Zandt. The multimillion-dollar deal sees Van Zandt and the world’s leading independent publisher join forces to manage the artist’s music publishing and recorded music catalogs, along with a portion of his name and likeness rights.
Terms of the deal also include a stake in producer royalties from Van Zandt’s work with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, as well as band member and producer royalties from his collaborations with Bruce Springsteen. Those collaborations include landmark albums like The River and Born in the USA, with songs like “Hungry Heart,” “Glory Days,” and “Dancing in the Dark.”
Additionally, terms include access to Primary Wave’s marketing team and publishing infrastructure, including digital strategy, licensing, synch opportunities, and film/TV production.
Van Zandt says he “couldn’t be more excited to explore this partnership” with Primary Wave: “They have an incredible track record for being creative and proactive. Looking forward to seeing what kind of fun we can have with these songs I’m still really proud of.”
Stevie Van Zandt’s songs have been performed for more than five decades by stars like Nancy Sinatra, Meat Loaf, Ronnie Spector, Damian Marley, Brian Setzer, Michael Monroe, Gary U.S. Bonds, Jimmy Barnes, Black Uhuru, and many more.
Highlights of the deal include his impassioned protest anthem, “I Am A Patriot,” (famously covered by Jackson Browne, Pearl Jam, and others), the theme song for his critically acclaimed 2019 Netflix series, Lilyhammer, and Darlene Love’s holiday hit, “All Alone on Christmas,” (featured in films like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Love Actually).
“Stevie’s legendary career speaks for itself,” says Samantha Rhulen, Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs at Primary Wave Music. “His talent as a songwriter and producer is renowned. We couldn’t be more excited to have him join the Primary Wave family, and our team is ready to dig into this incredible catalog.”
Stevie Van Zandt became known for helping create the “Jersey Shore” sound with the Asbury Jukes before becoming a founding member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Van Zandt became a successful solo artist in his own right, recording and performing with his band Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul while also producing albums for artists like Darlene Love, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, The Cocktail Slippers, The Breakers, and many more.
