Three, six, nine, it’s time for Steve Aoki to fire up the wayback machine once again with a familiar collaborator in tow.
The hit-making producer has announced he’s teaming up with Lil Jon for a reboot of the latter’s iconic track “Get Low.” Released in 2003 by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, the song left an indelible mark on the music industry, particularly in popularizing crunk, a sub-genre of hip-hop that gained mainstream attention in the aughts.
Aoki’s latest effort to deliver nostalgia arrives in the wake of his remix of another turn-of-the-century hit, Yellowcard’s “Ocean Avenue,” which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Combined with Lil Jon’s always-charismatic presence, Aoki’s track record of reviving the classics suggests that this reboot will likely be successful in breathing new life into a song that defined an era of popular music. Not to mention, the two have an established party-starting track record going back to 2011, when they released “Turbulence.”
Fans can expect the forthcoming “Get Low” remake, titled “Get Lower,” to release on February 9th, 2024.
