Squid has shared ‘Cro-Magnon Man,’ the final preview of Cowards, their most experimental and conceptually daring project yet.
‘Cro-Magnon Man’ transports listeners to a dystopian timeline where meaningless objects outlive humanity. The track’s eerie atmosphere is shaped by glitching synth stabs, jagged guitar work, and a bass-heavy undercurrent that pulls it into an unsettling sonic space. Vocal contributions from guitarist Louis Borlase, Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku, and Rosa Brook, add haunting layers to the song’s disorienting yet hypnotic structure.
Bassist and cornetist Laurie Nankivell describes the band’s creative synergy, saying:
“It’s fucking difficult, it takes many years to figure out a collective language you can share with five of us, and we have managed that musically, to feed off each other.”
With Cowards promising nine intricately woven narratives driven by avant-garde soundscapes, ‘Cro-Magnon Man’ is a compelling final glimpse into an album that embraces chaos, complexity, and dark humor.
