Celebrating the availability of De La Soul’s legendary single, “The Magic Number,” on streaming services, the hip-hop trio is releasing exclusive content on Spotify.

To celebrate the release of De La Soul’s legendary hit “The Magic Number” on streaming services, the group is releasing never-before-seen content exclusively on Spotify. Apple Music celebrated the release of the single to streaming on Thursday with exclusive content, and the trio’s entire catalog makes its triumphant release on streaming services beginning March 3.

Fans can pre-save De La Soul’s critically-acclaimed album 3 Feet High and Rising on Spotify and gain access to exclusive content from the legendary group. Leading up to the release of De La Soul’s entire catalog on March 3, Spotify will release clips, content, and unreleased footage highlighting their debut album’s creative process.

The group has been told by countless fans how much they value their physical copies of De La Soul’s music since their catalog has been unavailable to stream. Especially with the appearance of “The Magic Number” on the soundtrack to Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home, the hip-hop trio has found a new generation of fans.

March 3 marks the 34th anniversary of 3 Feet High and Rising, the group’s debut 1989 album on which “The Magic Number” was first released. In celebration, the group is releasing pressed double albums on black, magenta, and yellow vinyl. “The Magic Number” will be available as a cassette and a 7-inch single — which has already sold out in the US.

De La Soul’s catalog has never before been available on streaming platforms. Purchased by Tommy Boy Records in 2017, De La Soul’s catalog was initially going to be released on streaming platforms in 2019. The group became dissatisfied with the mere 10% revenue they would be receiving from Tommy Boy, and plans to bring their catalog to streaming were put on hold. Negotiations were hitting a roadblock until Reservoir Media acquired Tommy Boy in 2021 and worked with the group to get their catalog on digital storefronts.
