The second Sphere will be constructed in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Sphere Entertainment Co. announced the location of its next venue on Tuesday (October 15th), revealing that Abu Dhabi will serve as home to a 20,000-capacity venue that echoes the scale and technological prowess of the original Las Vegas Sphere that opened in 2022. As with the Vegas Sphere, the Abu Dhabi Sphere intends to host concerts and other events year-round.
“The vision for Sphere has always included a global network of venues, and today’s announcement is a significant milestone toward that goal,” said James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sphere Entertainment. “Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city.”
Sphere originally announced plans to open a second venue in London, but those plans were ultimately nixed by the city’s mayor due to concerns over high energy use and the “significant light intrusion” it would cause local residents.
As for current programming at the Las Vegas Sphere, Eagles’ residency runs through February. The venue is also screening V-U2, an immersive concert film commemorating U2’s own recent residency.
