It turns out Drake isn’t collaborating with Taylor Swift after all.
Earlier this week, Drizzy took to Instagram to share a series of throwback photos, including one of his son, Adonis; a shot of him at the beach; and a picture of him wrapping his arm around the Folklore singer-songwriter.
“They too soft to understand the meaning of hard work,” he captioned the five-photo carousel.
The post immediately ignited theories and speculation among fans; many of whom were convinced that Drake and Swift had some kind of collaboration on the way. Some Twitter users wondered if the Grammy winners had cooked up a new track, or if they planned to pull something from the vault.
Unfortunately for fans, Drake’s throwback post wasn’t a cryptic teaser. Sources told TMZ that there was no “hidden meaning” behind the Swift photo, and that the two have no plans to release a joint record.
“Our sources say there’s nothing behind the pic other than memories …” the outlet reported, “and the photo with T-Swift is from a few years ago, sometime in 2017 or 2018.”
Rumors of a Swift-Drake collaboration first began swirling in late 2016, after the two were spotted hanging out together in the studio. An insider told The Sun that Swift had enlisted Drake to assist her sixth studio album, and claimed the OVO boss had even recorded vocals for at least one cut.
“Drake has been her friend for a while and it seemed a no-brainer that she would spend time in the studio with him,” the source said. “As well as writing with Taylor, he’s producing a few tracks and even lent his vocals to one song. It’s a real mix of edgier hip-hop and R&B sounds.”
The purported Swift-Drake track has never seen the light of day.
