Sony Music Publishing Nashville and Black River Publishing announce their worldwide publishing administration deal. The partnership enables Sony Music Publishing to provide global services to Black River’s publishing catalog.
Since its creation 12 years ago, Black River Publishing has boasted an impressive roster of talent, achieving numerous accolades, including 30 number one songs. Their roster is home to several Grammy award-winning hits, such as the 2013 Best Country Song with Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go Round” and Best Contemporary Christian Performance with KING & COUNTRY’s “God Only Knows” in 2019.
“Black River Publishing and our amazingly talented roster of writers are thrilled to be joining forces with our friends at Sony Music Publishing,” says Rebekah Gordon, Black River VP of Publishing. “The passion for music and songwriters on both the creative and administrative teams is unmatched. I’m looking forward to celebrating many successes together.”
The partnership provides Black River access to Sony Music Publishing’s global services, elevating the former’s reach across the music industry. Black River’s extensive catalog features songs by country superstars and artist-writers like Kelsea Ballerini, MaRynn Taylor, Abby Anderson, Anna Vaus, Josiah Siska, Jacob Davis, and hitmakers like Hannah Kerr and Grammy-winning songwriter Josh Osborne.
“Independent music publishers play a vital role in our Music Row community,” says Rusty Gaston, Sony Music Publishing Nashville CEO. “Black River has done an amazing job of identifying and developing some of the biggest hit songwriters in Nashville. It is an honor for Sony Music Publishing to support Black River in their efforts.”
The Black River deal is one of many recently inked by Sony Music Publishing. This month alone, the company announced Colour Vision Publishing in collaboration with BTS songwriter Max and a global partnership with hit country songwriter Ashley Gorley. Gorley has written for countless country stars, including Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood, George Strait, Reba McEntire, and Florida Georgia Line.
