Emerging from the shadows of anonymity, Canadian indie-rock outfit Softlung made an enigmatic debut in the fall of 2022. The musician, who has opened for Wu-Tang Clan and The Who teased fans with a cryptic first single, ‘Worry,’ leaving the public guessing about his true identity. Months later, with the release of ‘The Other Side,’ Softlung finally unveiled his real name as S.J. Kardash, setting the stage for one of the most highly anticipated indie-rock debuts of 2023.
Crafted entirely by S.J. himself, Softlung’s debut album Second Chances is a testament to the artist’s musical prowess and creative vision. Eight tracks deep, the album includes three previously released singles (‘Don’t Say No,’ ‘The Other Side,’ and ‘Worry’) and five new tracks, each one showcasing Softlung’s unique sound and songwriting talent.
According to S.J., Second Chances began as a personal project during a transitional period, but it quickly evolved into something much more significant.
“This project really began as a private outlet while I was between projects and trying to figure out what to do next,” says Kardash. “But as it took shape and became more real, I realized, maybe the answer was right in front of me. I’m quite looking forward to releasing this record.”
Through introspective lyrics and infectious melodies, Softlung invites listeners on a journey of self-reflection, self-doubt, and the search for new beginnings. This debut gives listeners a first glimpse into the world of an artist coming into his own, and it’s one not to be missed.
Second Chances is slated for release on May 10, 2023, and fans can pre-save the album on their favorite streaming platform.
