Saturday Night Live cast members Sarah Sherman and Bowen Yang front the fictional hair-metal band Naumôre Dandruf in a new commercial for CeraVe’s Hydrating Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner. The ad was filmed as a partnership between SNL and CeraVe, an official sponsor of this weekend’s SNL50 celebration.
In the commercial, Sherman and Yang are glam-metal musicians whose dandruff flies out of their hair while headbanging during a rehearsal. They deliver wacky lines like, ‘We got a big gig opening for Buff at Gruff’s and we keep getting ‘druff on our stuff!” It turns out that their drummer, Dr. Dustin Portela, is a dermatologist during the day, and he clues them in to CeraVe’s shampoo and conditioner.
“Never thought I’d have fake dandruff flakes fall out of my head while cosplaying as a rockstar, but that’s Hollywood for ya,” Sherman told Rolling Stone of filming the commercial. “While I’m not a headbanger by trade, I do have my fair share of dandruff, but let’s just say mine looks way worse than that. We had so much fun filming this and legit as a dandruff-haver, I love CeraVe’s new shampoo and conditioner. Crema, my on-set character, certainly could’ve used it!”
Yang added, “Naumor Dandruf ended up being a perfect, elaborate excuse to hang out and laugh with Sarah. We locked into the look and really stepped into the hair metal fantasy, and then Dr. Dustin wrote me a prescription for an ointment I desperately needed! I guess, thank you to CeraVe for saving my life and a fun day on set.”
The commercial arrives ahead of the all-star SNL50 concert, streaming live on Peacock from New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Friday (February 14th), and the SNL50: The Anniversary Special airing on NBC on Sunday night (February 16th).
