The Spinal Tap sequel 41 years in the making officially has a title and release date: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will arrive in theaters on September 12th, 2025.
The sequel comes courtesy of Bleecker Street, which will handle its US theatrical distribution. In anticipation of the sequel’s release, a newly restored version of the original 1984 This Is Spinal Tap will screen in theaters this summer before being made available on digital and streaming platforms for the first time in years.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will star original cast members Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprising their iconic roles as Spinal Tap band members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Small, reuniting for “one final concert” after a 15-year hiatus. Rob Reiner will also reprise his role as documentarian Martin “Marty” DiBergi (in addition to serving as the actual film’s director).
They’ll be joined by a cast of all-star cameos that includes music legends Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, plus Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, and Chris Addison.
