Sea Lemon, the dream-pop project of Seattle’s Natalie Lew, has released a new single titled ‘Cynical,’ the final preview from her upcoming debut album Diving For A Prize, due this Friday, May 30, via Luminelle Recordings.
Premiered on a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy, ‘Cynical’ is built on a motorik groove, echoing guitar layers, and a chorus that lingers: “Say you’re getting cynical feel like I told you that I’m in a trench / Right on the outskirts while you’re on the edge / How far will you let it go?” Despite the song’s title, its sonic palette is buoyant and textured—part of the hopeful, aqueous sound world Lew has crafted across her forthcoming album.
On the single, Lew Shares:
“A lot of this record feels like a step in a new but related sonic direction for me. ‘Cynical’ is the song that feels the most connected to some of my former music, like the song Vaporized, and is about the feeling of being all the way in on a relationship while sensing someone is on their way out.”
To support the record, Sea Lemon will perform headline shows in New York (July 10 at Nightclub 101), Los Angeles (July 12 at Zebulon), and Seattle (August 8 at Tractor Tavern). She’ll also appear as a supporting act for Death Cab For Cutie on select dates, including Missoula on July 29 and Spokane on July 30.
‘Cynical’ is available now on all digital platforms. Diving For A Prize arrives this Friday, May 30.
