Scott Stapp has just released his new solo album, Higher Power, and with it comes a music video for the moving ballad “If These Walls Could Talk” featuring Dorothy.
The single features the Creed singer and Dorothy trading verses as they sing about battling demons, with poignant lyrics like, “They’ve seen me pick the bottle up and put the bible down/ They’ve heard me crying out more times than I can count.” The song slowly builds into a powerful climax showcasing each singer’s impressive vocal range.
Heavy Consequence recently caught up with Stapp, and he told us, “[Dorothy] is a real powerhouse vocalist. Just in terms of what she’s capable of doing vocally, it just blows my mind. She has such an iconic, big, soulful voice. And it’s so dynamic — she can do so much, from rock to incredible gospel-esque melodies, all the way to having opera training.”
Stapp went on to reveal that he originally was looking for a country singer to duet with on “If These Walls Could Talk,” but ultimately witnessed Dorothy singing when she opened a show he was playing with Daughtry. “I knew the second or third song [into her set], that’s the voice that needs to be on this song,” he recalled.
In a statement, Dorothy remarked, “It was the highest honor for me to collaborate with Scott Stapp on such a beautiful, raw, emotional song. I’ve been a fan of his all my life and I hope this song positively impacts the world.”
Stapp just kicked off a brief solo tour that runs through a March 22nd show in Clear Lake, Iowa, with tickets available here.
Next month, Stapp will play his first shows with Creed in more than 10 years as they headline a pair of Summer of ’99 rock cruises. The band will then embark on an extensive North American tour that spans two legs in the summer and fall. Pick up tickets to Creed’s shows here.
