Sabrina Carpenter’s Netflix holiday special debuted to 2.6 million views in its debut weekend. Though it only ranked as Netflix’s #8 most-watched program that week.

“A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter” debuted on Friday, December 6, and brought in 2.6 million views that weekend. The special saw the “Espresso” singer performing with guests like Shania Twain, Chappell Roan, and Tyla.

“There are comedy specials, and there are musical specials, and there are holiday specials. But who does musical comedy holiday specials? A lot of people,” quipped Carpenter. “But do those specials have celebrity guests? Yes, they do! Everyone with a musical comedy holiday special does them with celebrity guests, and this is one of those.”

While she may not be the first to do a musical comedy holiday special with celebrity guests, the pop star’s event is full of camp. With comedy sketches and Christmas hits wrapped up in a kitschy bow, the special might have taken some of Carpenter’s fans by surprise — if the “nonsense” in the title wasn’t enough of an indication that the program doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The holiday special was Netflix’s #8 most-watched program during the week of December 1, ahead of both “Arcane” season 2 (2.3 million views) and “The Later Daters” (1.8 million views).

Netflix’s most-watched list was dominated that week by “The Madness,” the #1 watched show with 13.3 million views. That’s an increase from its debut viewership the week prior at 9.3 million. Meanwhile, Keira Knightley’s “Black Doves” came in at #2 with 10.8 million views.

Sabrina Carpenter was recently honored by actress Danielle Fishel, with whom she co-starred in the mid-2010s on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World,” as one of Entertainment Weekly’s 2024 Entertainers of the Year. “I could not be more proud of Sabrina Carpenter, but to say I’m shocked — that would be a lie,” wrote Fishel. “Somehow, I think she’s just getting started.”
