Russian Circles have unveiled a music video for the new song “Gnosis,” the title track from their forthcoming album out August 19th.
The highly conceptual clip is the first-ever music video from the instrumental post-metal trio. Equal parts art gallery, nature film, and dystopian horror, the rush of visuals collide like a fever dream. It’s all soundtracked by the eight-and-a-half minute track, which builds into a crushing slab of metallic shoegaze.
“Gnosis is a special song that has grown with us over a number of years,” remarked the band in a press statement. “The main theme of the song was reconceptualized so many times that it provided nearly endless arrangement options. It’s rewarding to see such a minimal song idea evolve into one of our most dynamic and fully-realized songs to date.”
Regarding the Joe Kell-directed video, the band added: “When discussing a concept for the video, we agreed we wanted cinematic footage of nature and humanity. Ultimately, we wanted the video to feel fresh and inspiring despite dealing with a dark theme. Similarly, we wanted to compel viewers to rewatch the video and get something new from each viewing. Somehow, editor Joe Kell masterfully made this all happen.”
In support of Gnosis, Russian Circles are heading out on a fall North American headlining tour, followed by a co-headlining European run with Cult of Luna set for Spring 2023. The North American outing kicks off September 15th in Minneapolis and runs through a homecoming show on November 12th in Chicago. Rezn will support the second half of the itinerary.
