For the first time ever, Going There with Dr. Mike recorded in front of a live audience during the 2025 Sound Mind Music Festival for Mental Health. Host Dr. Mike Friedman was joined on stage by Brooklyn singer-songwriter, mental health advocate, and proudly makeup-free performer ROSIE, as well as Maddy Friedman (no relation) of music industry mental health nonprofit Backline. ROSIE also delivered a touching performance of her song “Big Heart,” and you can catch it all by watching the full episode above or listening wherever you get your podcasts.
From the earliest days of her songwriting, ROSIE’s lyrics have revealed a person deeply (and sometimes painfully) sensitive to her own emotions and those around her. In this live episode, she explains how what could be perceived as weakness actually became a “superpower” that amplified her craft. Perhaps more importantly, it’s helped her in her mental health journey, as she often says, “The bad days are just as important as the good days.”
ROSIE also reveals how she got over her past believe in “empty memories,” and shares the types of therapy she personally has found useful (CBT and exposure therapy). Then, she’s joined by Backline’s Friedman to discuss the vital work the nonprofit does connecting music industry professionals and their families to resources to help manage the stressors that come along with a career in music.
