Britpop singer Robbie Williams has teamed up with legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi for the song “Rocket,” the first single from the former’s new album.
The track is definitely on the heavier side for Williams, with Iommi providing the driving guitars that makes up the core of the production. Iommi also gets to unleash a solo around the halfway mark, and his distinct playing style is immediately recognizable. A video for the track is set to drop on Friday (May 23rd) and features shots of Williams and Iommi together in the guitarist’s hometown of Birmingham, England.
“This [track] is massive guitars, as you can imagine,” Williams had previously said of the song, via NME. “It’s adrenaline-filled and balls-to-the-wall.”

Meanwhile, Williams is set to release his new album, titled BRITPOP, later this fall. Discussing the making of the album in a press release, Williams said he set out to create the record he wanted to make after leaving UK boy band Take That in 1995.
“It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music,” he said. “I’ve worked with some of my heroes on this album; it’s raw, there are more guitars and it’s an album that’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too — I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album.”
As for Iommi, in addition to prepping for the final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham on July 5th, the guitarist continues to appear on the occasional studio-recorded track. In recent years, he’s dropped a pair of solo singles that tie into his cologne brand, plus he appeared on a track on Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient No. 9 LP. Furthermore, Iommi previously indicated that he’s working on a solo album.
