Red Hot Chili Peppers Seeking $350 Million for Music Catalog

Red Hot Chili Peppers are looking to unload their recorded music catalog for approximately $350 million, according to a new report from Billboard. The deal would be in addition to the roughly $140 million that Hipgnosis Songs already paid the band for the publishing rights to their music in 2021.

According to Billboard, Red Hot Chili Peppers own the rights to all 13 studio albums and other releases issued via Warner Music, although it is not known whether they own their first four albums, which were released by EMI.

The band is shopping its recordings for about $350 million, with Billboard estimating that the catalog brings in approximately $26 million annually. In fact, sources tell Billboard that the Chili Peppers may have already struck a deal with Warner Music Group, although that has not been confirmed.

In addition to the $140 million the band already secured from Hipgnosis, the Chili Peppers are looking at a total of nearly $500 million for all of their music assets.

By comparison, Bruce Springsteen sold his catalog to Sony Music in 2021 for $500 million, while Pink Floyd recently took home $400 million from Sony Music. Meanwhile, the richest deal for a music catalog appears to be the $1.27 billion that Sony paid to Queen in 2024.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have no tour dates scheduled in 2025 as of yet, although they recently played the FireAid benefit concert on January 30th, performing a “California”-themed set at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
