Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen Selling Guitars on Reverb

Rancid singer-guitarist Lars Frederiksen is selling off dozens of guitars with the launch of his official Reverb Shop on September 25th.

Frederiksen and Reverb made the announcement on Wednesday (September 18th) and previewed the shop’s initial stock, which includes a plethora of axes used by Frederiksen in the studio and onstage with Rancid and his solo projects through the years.

“Over the years, I’ve acquired a lot of different types of guitars, some basses, and a lot of other cool stuff,” Frederiksen told Reverb. “I’ve used it all in some way, whether it’s been on stage or in the studio, but it’s been sitting and collecting dust. So I’ve teamed up with Reverb to get some of this gear into the hands of people who will play it.”

One of the crown jewels — and perhaps the most recognizable axe in the collection — is the 1965 Gibson SG Special with Frederiksen’s “Viking” sticker decal, self-described as his “main guitar for years in Rancid.” It was also immortalized on the cover of the Viking LP by his solo act Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards.

Another bonafide artifact comes in the form of the smashed Gibson guitar featured on the cover of Rancid’s “Roots Radicals” 7-inch — Frederiksen’s “first real guitar.”

“It’s in great shape, as you can see,” Frederiksen joked of the guitar, which has a severed neck and exposed body. “Super playable. Obviously the sustain’s kind of shit, but other than that, it sounds great!”

A few other shop highlights include:

  • A black Fender Telecaster that can be heard across Rancid’s 1998 album Life Won’t Wait
  • A 1993 Epiphone Les Paul that Frederiksen used to record Let’s Go and …And Out Comes the Wolves
  • Frederiksen’s blue “Millwall FC” Epiphone G-400
  • Multiple Flying Vs, including a white 1984 Gibson Explorer that was used on the last few Rancid albums and with the Old Firm Casuals

For more, head over to Reverb to preview the Official Lars Frederiksen Reverb Shop before it goes live on September 25th. Until then, you can pick up some of his signature models and other gear that’s already listed on Reverb. Check out pics of the guitars and Reverb’s announcement video with Frederiksen below.
