Brooklyn’s Punchlove return with their latest single, ‘Today You Can Learn The Secret,’ expanding the sonic and thematic range of their acclaimed debut.
Following the release of their 2024 LP Channels, the four-piece continues to evolve. Where last month’s ‘(sublimate)’ introduced glitchy electronics and heavier, industrial-leaning noise pop, ‘Today You Can Learn The Secret’ takes a more introspective route, weaving surrealism and subconscious exploration into their expanding sound palette.
Co-produced with Xav Sinden, the track marks a shift from the band’s self-produced origins. Lyrically and conceptually, the song was born out of an experiment in automatism, in which vocalist Jillian Olesen began recording dreams and unconscious thoughts scribbled in a notebook kept beside her bed.
Olesen says:
“This release is a surrealist, portal fantasy-inspired encounter with the unconscious mind. It felt like I had a new window into understanding how certain things were really affecting me… where we are found face-to-face with our own humanity and mortality in new and unexpected ways.”
‘Today You Can Learn The Secret’ arrives as Punchlove continues its momentum into 2025. After touring the UK and Europe, the band heads out this month across the US in support of Lucid Express, with stops in Austin, Dallas, Davenport, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
