Brooklyn’s Punchlove returns with ‘(sublimate),’ their first new music since the release of their acclaimed debut LP, Channels, on Kanine Records last March.

With ‘(sublimate),’ Punchlove evolves beyond the shoegaze textures of their debut, introducing glitch-infused electronics and a heavier, industrial-tinged edge. The track pulses with an unsettling urgency, weaving together layers of noise-pop menace and hypnotic intensity. Inspired by Jillian Olesen’s altered perceptions following a prolonged period of digital and physical self-isolation, ‘(sublimate)’ captures the sensation of being trapped in an all-consuming digital reality.

Olesen explains:

“I realized and then I couldn’t stop realizing. Ecliptic totality created a very stark before and after that felt a bit like suddenly noticing a portal in a room you’ve spent your whole life in that for better or worse, you now cannot unsee. This was my experience on the brink of that inflection point.”

With ‘(sublimate),’ Punchlove signals an exciting new chapter, trading in their signature shoegaze haze for something darker and more immediate.
