Young Thug was denied bond on Thursday in the ongoing RICO case against the Atlanta rapper and his label YSL Records affiliates.
During the hearing, prosecutors, referring to Young Thug as “King Slime,” once again quoted the rapper’s lyrics when arguing that he bragged about shooting YFN Lucci’s mother on his 2021 collaborative single with Juice WRLD, “Bad Boy.”
“[Thug] got into a beef if you will with another rapper by the name of Rayshawn Bennett, also known as YFN Lucci,” the lawyer explains in the below video. “At some point, Lucci’s mother was shot at and the song comes out, ‘Bad Boy,’ that says, uh, let’s see…‘You better watch the way you breathe around me ‘fore that breath be your last boy, Smith & Wesson .45 put a hole in his heart, better not play with me, killers stay with me, I shot at his mommy now he no longer mention me.”
The judge, who mentioned an expected trial date of January 9, 2023, cited concerns about witnesses being threatened or harmed when explaining the decision to deny Thug’s bond. The rapper, legal name Jeffrey Williams, watched the hearing remotely from Cobb County Jail.
Young Thug was charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in a 56-count indictment that also included several other Young Stoner Life Records rappers like Gunna, Yak Gotti, YSL Duke, and others. Thug was arrested on May 9 after his home in Atlanta was raided by authorities.
