Poptones share inventive new single ‘Say Something Now’

Danish experimental rock trio Poptones have unveiled their latest single, ‘Say Something Now,’ the second preview from their upcoming album Pure, due out September 26 via Happy Metal Records.
Where lead single ‘Skin of Sea‘ hinted at the band’s move toward more intuitive and sprawling compositions, ‘Say Something Now’ dives even deeper, drawing from a wildly imaginative creative exercise inspired by the classic card game UNO. While in residence on Denmark’s North Jutland coast, the trio devised an improvisation method that used UNO cards to determine musical behaviors: red signals chaos, green means stillness, while action cards flip roles or multiply outputs. The result is a track that bristles with tension and dynamic interplay.
The band shares:
“The chorus was taken straight from that improvisation. Anders and Simon both drew red, meaning they had to play with intensity and unpredictability. Mads drew green with a ‘turn around’ card, so he had to play his bass backwards – fretting with his right hand. It led to this beautiful tension: the chaos of drums and guitar, anchored by a bassline that barely moves.”
Pure arrives September 26 and will be available digitally and on vinyl via Happy Metal Records. ‘Say Something Now’ is out now.
