Pantera were joined by the Seahawks Blue Thunder drumline for a performance of “Walk” during their set supporting Metallica at Lumen Field in Seattle on Friday (August 30th).
The metal veterans were running through the classic song as they usually would, but after the second chorus, the Seahawks drumline took the stage to a rousing cheer from the locals.
Pantera drummer Charlie Benante stayed locked into the song’s very deliberate and precise rhythm as the drumline fell in around him. It appeared to be a pretty loose rendition — potentially unrehearsed — as the drumline members (and especially the guys with the marching cymbals) look to be free-forming along with Benante. They’re not exactly on time, but it adds to the charm, as everyone is enjoying themselves.
The collaboration reprises Benante’s previous appearance alongside the Blue Thunder drumline back in January 2023. That time, Benante was a guest of the Seahawks at Lumen Field, appearing during their rainy game against the Los Angeles Rams to play “Walk” and Anthrax’s “Indians” with the Blue Thunder. After the performance, Benante called them “a great drum line” and wrote that he even “learned a trick or 2.”
The Seattle gig wrapped up Pantera’s support dates with Metallica, though they have one more stateside performance slated for 2024 at the Aftershock Festival (get tickets here) in October before commencing a European tour in 2025. Pick up tickets to the European shows here.
