Bathed in ethereal dream-pop tones, Night Swimming’s latest single, ‘In The Real World,’ captures the ache of youthful detachment and longing. Released today, the track arrives alongside the announcement of the band’s debut UK headline tour this autumn, as well as a string of support dates with Miki Berenyi this May.
Following their well-received 2024 debut EP, No Place To Land, the Bath/Bristol outfit continues to refine their immersive sound. With production by Peter Miles (TORRES, Orla Gartland) and mastering by Simon Scott of Slowdive, ‘In The Real World’ tells the story of a young person feeling trapped—both emotionally and geographically. The song is deeply rooted in the rural landscapes of Shropshire, where vocalist Meg Jones spent her teenage years, and reflects on the sensation of life happening just beyond reach.
Vocalist and lyricist Meg Jones comments on the song’s inspiration:
“‘In The Real World’ is written from the perspective of a young person who feels physically and emotionally isolated. It expresses a longing to be part of something bigger, but not feeling sure what that might look like.”
Night Swimming will bring their atmospheric sound to the live stage with a headline UK tour this autumn, including stops in Manchester, London, Nottingham, and Bristol, as well as support slots for Miki Berenyi in May.
‘In The Real World’ is out now on Singing Light Music.
