My Morning Jacket has shared their latest single, ‘Squid Ink,’ a dense and delightfully warped track that showcases a blend of psychedelic rock and heavy rhythms.

Propelled by bassist Tom Blankenship and drummer Patrick Hallahan, ‘Squid Ink’ is a powerhouse of sonic weight, built on deep grooves and a hypnotic intensity. Lead singer Jim James delivers shapeshifting vocals, adding to the song’s murky, immersive atmosphere. The track arrives alongside a visually striking official music video, streaming now on YouTube, which complements the song’s dark, surreal energy.

James says of the track:

“The idea behind ‘Squid Ink’ is that certain people carry a negativity that fills the room like a squid shooting ink into the water. It’s about trying to get out of those murky waters by believing in yourself, and when Patrick and I were jamming I got the idea to sing part of the chorus really low — almost like putting a beard on the face of the vocal.”

‘Squid Ink’ marks the second single from My Morning Jacket’s upcoming album, is, set for release on March 21 via ATO Records.
