Mr. Big have released the video for “Up on You” — the second single from their forthcoming album Ten, out July 12th.
The track is an accomplished hard-rock strutter bolstered by crystal-clear production and the ace performances typical of Mr. Big. The band has some fun with a descending scale and some pop flare in the chorus, while singer Eric Martin exercises his impressive vocal range throughout the track.
Meanwhile, the music video lets us in on a Mr. Big concert staple — the ol’ “Switcheroo” — where the band trade instruments at the end of the set. In the case of this clip, all four members of the band are seen playing each instrument and singing.
As Martin explained: “I’m on bass, Billy sings, Nick plays guitar and Paul rocks the drums… it’s a lot of fun and the crowd goes wild. So the concept for the video was simple: ‘Do The Switcheroo and go bat shit crazy for a couple hours.’”
“Who says Rock & Roll has to be serious?” added Martin in the press release. “Most of the videos that we’ve done over the years have had a bit of humor in it.”
The upcoming album Ten was produced by Jay Ruston and Mr. Big. The band’s lineup features Martin, guitar shredder Gilbert, and bassist Billy Sheehan alongside drummer Nick D’Virgilio, who took over for the late Pat Torpey in 2023. The album is dedicated to Torpey, who helped formed the band in 1988, and was a member until his passing in 2018.
“This new album doesn’t copy anything from the nine previous studio records… it’s all new stuff from scratch,” said Martin in the initial album announcement. “This is raw, unadulterated riff rock and blues with all the Mr. Big trimmings.”
