Mid Wales/Bristol-based alt-rock trio Moletrap return with their brand-new single, ‘Taffy (Flags of Aber Prom).’ Following the success of their previous track, ‘Rhagofn,’ the band continues to build momentum with their distinct blend of untamed rock and deep-rooted Welsh identity.

Born from an accidental phone recording during a jam session, ‘Taffy’ evolved into a song rich with layered meaning and cultural resonance. The track draws inspiration from the old nursery rhyme ‘Taffy,’ which stereotypes Welsh people as thieves, and juxtaposes this with historical events, such as the flooding of Cwm Elan to supply water to Birmingham—a decision imposed by Westminster despite local objections. These themes intertwine to challenge perceptions of ownership and exploitation.

Frontman and lyricist of Moletrap reflects on the track’s meaning:

“‘Taffy’ is also an old nursery rhyme which depicts us Welsh as thieves and sneaks, a common stereotype from yesteryear…I liked the irony of the two themes—in the sense of natural resources, who were the real thieves and sneaks here? And anyway, how is the King of England the former Prince of Wales?”

‘Taffy (Flags of Aber Prom)’ is out now.
